How Together's text messages work

Together sends medication reminders by text message. This page explains who gets them, how people agree to receive them, and how to stop.

Program

Together is a medication reminder and care coordination service operated by JAM Enterprises (doing business as Together). Text messages go to two kinds of people:

How people agree to receive texts

The person being cared for (two steps)

  1. A family member who manages care enters her mobile number in the Together app and confirms that she is happy to receive texts.
  2. Together then sends her one text asking her to agree. No reminders are sent until she replies YES. This is the message she receives:
Message to the person being cared for
Together: Hi [Name], your family set up medication reminders for you. You will get up to 8 msgs/day. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply YES to agree, HELP for help, STOP to opt out.
  3. When she replies YES, she receives this confirmation:
    Confirmation
Together: Thank you, [Name]! Medication reminders are on, up to 8 msgs/day. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to cancel.

If she does not reply YES, she receives no reminders.

The caregiver

A caregiver turns on missed-dose texts themselves, by entering their own mobile number in the Together app under "Missed-dose texts to you". The screen tells them, before they save, that by saving their number they agree to receive missed-dose texts from Together (up to 4 a day), that message and data rates may apply, that they can reply STOP to opt out, and that our Terms and Privacy Policy apply. Leaving the number empty turns these texts off.

Example messages

Medication reminder
Together: Hi [Name], it is [8:00 am]. Please take your [medication]. Reply 1 when done. Reply STOP to opt out.
Missed-dose alert to the caregiver
Together: [Name] has not replied to the reminder for [medication]. You may want to call [Name] on [phone number]. Reply STOP to opt out.
If someone replies with something else
Together: Reply 1 when you have taken your medication.

How often

Reminders are sent only when a medication is due. One text covers every medication due at the same time. The person being cared for receives up to 8 messages a day, including our replies. A caregiver receives missed-dose alerts only when a reminder has gone unanswered. Message and data rates may apply.
